almost there. I couldn't wait to get the saw out and be done with it for awhile. And as you said, it will be covered anyway. But really looks good if you didn't.
How big is that vent and how tall is your chimney plan?

Tex

The vent opening is about 11x3". I read about the 10% of opening area recommendation and this works out to be around 20%.

I'm thinking of having the chimney around 3' in length. It depends on what is available near me, I'm going to a local supplier tomorrow to ask.

Thumbs up Re: 30"/760mm Scotland Pompeii

Gudday
Trust me most folk will be be overawed by the fact it's a wood fired oven and will except the fact that's what it's supposed to be long after your cement burnt fingers heal.
Enjoy the journey and except your results ..., they are good!
Regards dave

Twin walled stainless flue is pretty near perfect JMS. Most Builder or Plumbers Merch will stock it.
I wish i had a few quid, as i'd snap up that saw.

Don't forget the UKWFO, there's a for sale section on there!

How many briquettes should I be using for curing? Should I use a certain number which I increase with each day, or do I just put in a set number and pull them out when the dome reaches the desired temp?

I said that I wouldn't be bothered by the arch, but I was. One of the top bricks also wasn't bonded well. So I pulled the arch down and rebuilt it, substituting in some untapered bricks to make the mortar joints less excessive. I'm much more happy the result this time. I now have only one uncut firebrick left out of 144

I plugged the thermal gap with ceramic rope and then thermal-caulk'ed over it on the inside. The tube says it is black, but it was obviously blue. Maybe it sets black

Lastly I put a tray of briquettes in the oven.

Looks good. Your prudent action of re-doing the arch is painful at the time but will stand you in good stead. Increases the satisfaction with the job as well, IMHO.

I reckon that the caulk will go black, after some fires probably.

It'll all end up pretty sooty in there with all the use that fab oven is going to get anyway!

Good call on the arch re-build, that's the bit you'll look at mainly and if you weren't happy with it, it'd always be there....watching...waiting....knowing...

I got the insulation done today.

I lost track of how many layers I put on. It is at least 4"/10cm at the top, probably more. I have a few metres of blanket remaining (so I even covered the arch) so I might put that on tomorrow before I put up the brick outer layer. Can't have too much insulation right?
