Mortar

Help! I had an oven built - although it is not complete - using firebricks. They used 1 part portland, 1 part clay and 1 part sand. Is my oven going to collapse?

Re: Mortar

This is just my opinion, I am sure other will have theirs and will post them shortly.

But I think it will be fine. It does have a larger proportion of cement than normal. But if you are only going to fire it once or twice a week, my guess is it will last a long time. The heat does cause the cement to deteriorate, but you have a good amount of fire clay in the mix.

Of course I am just going off of what I have read.

Hope this helps some.
