It looks like you are tapering the bricks, are you beveling too? Like MrC says, the bricks do get smaller in this area.

Ive tapered one side of the bricks right from the start and for this coase and the last ive beveled both sides.

Heres how Im cutting my bricks to get the angles, crude I know but it works.

Does not matter if how you get your bevel, if it works that is all that matters. Based on what I have seen from your pics your process must be working just great. Nice tight joints. Sounds like you got the idea of smaller bricks but here is a visual for you.

Nice Wayne

Your just working it out and I'm yet to work it out . Did figure out to get rid of the inverted V on my jig and I guess everyone's jig I need to mark top and bottom and cut brick with bottom up.

Had some issues keeping mortar to around 3mm but have figured that out. I’m attempting to keep brick to brick inside the oven with no visible mortar. Not quite achieving it but very close think it have that sussed too.
Be interested in your last 3courses. Especially angle measurements if you are able of tilt and taper.

I hav'nt been as pricise as you(you can tell from my jig) and im betting it will show in the end result.
I have been keeping my mortar joins small as well, but with no specific messurement in mind and I am trying to keep the mortar to a bare minimum on the in side.
