Gudday
What's to go on the top? You know the outer roof of the oven. Perhaps the steel could be use there.

I think you do need some reinforcement in your cladding layer because the vaults are independent of each other, but thick reo is not suitable. The usual practice for refractory reinforcement is stainless steel needles because they can dissipate the extra heat they attract, to the surrounding refractory without causing the stresses of differing expansion rates. They are however, quite expensive, but you could use normal steel fibres, of which there are many to choose from. This of course is only my opinion and if you are following a plan from someone else, then presumably it has been tried and tested and proved effective.

The vaults in themselves are quite strong.
This is the second vault oven I have built from these plans.
The first one is slightly different, but still going strong after 5 years.

The outside of the oven will be a corrugated iron roof to match the shearing shed you can see in the background in some of the pics.

I still have to make a prep bench to the right (or left) of the oven and so the reo won't go to waste

Finally got the vault finished this weekend.

I ended up leaving the problem brick on the inside and just decided to live with it.

The opening didn't come out as nice as i had hoped, as I had to rush it. But it looks ok.

And yes - it VERY foggy on Saturday.

This is all I'm doing for the rest of the year.

I'm cooking xmas lunch in it, so I will post some pics of that.

next steps are to complete the landing & chimney which I will hopefully start in January ...maybe. Lots of other work on the Farm has been put on hold for this project.

Interesting build Mitchamus,i was originally going to do a similar oven but i got convinced to do one with less thermal mass and more insulation but i really like what you've done.
Hey why did you taper the inner arch bricks with a bevel cut?Wont it make it harder to put on a door?
Regards,John.
