LOL Brad, that's precious. I just read it aloud for my husband, and our four year old daughter overheard. "Yeah," she said. "I don't like concrete in YOUR pizza, either, Mommy. You think about it, too." She clearly agrees with your daughter's logic.

I left the shuttering in place with a plastic covering and kept the concrete damp for just over 2 weeks for it to cure nicely.

The concrete is 4 inches thick at its thinnest point, and I hope that the concrete pour will now lock the brick arch in place - effectively removing the lateral forces placed on the supporting wall.

Wow!!! I think you could park a brick oven on that one!!!

There was a joke about the furniture I used to make - some of it was really overbuilt. My friends used to tell me they could park a Volkswagen on one of my couches - one day we made a crude one and we picked up my buddy's VW and set it on top and it held. After that I toned down my construction methods.

I love the arch!!

Hi Brad,
It looks good. I am a few steps behind you on this and looking to your pictures for tips, so keep posting...
The slab you layer over the arch, is that including the insulation? Or are you laying that on top of this layer.

Also how high is the top of your hearth going to before you lay the fire bricks?
