 Thermocouple adaptation I used a plastic waterpipe piece to make a tube in the perlcrete layer. One at the top and one at the bottom of the insulation layer. Then I can install and/or remove thermocouple probes as needed! A little vaseline on the tube, then rotate it while the perlcrete is curing. For the top tube I covered it with a little more cement based perlcrete and will level that surface with the fireclay/sand mix before the hearth bricks are placed.

| Re: BenjaMia Bakehouse Project It baffles the mind that it would have ever paid to scorp out the back of the step like that. Mind you, this was before sintered diamond saws, and that was a lot of cutting. Great piece.

| Re: BenjaMia Bakehouse Project I dunno...it was heavy! Took two people to unload it off the back of the pickup and position it in place. I can lift one side at a time to set it where I need it and shim it up to the same level as the new floor.

| Hearth time! I mixed a bag of fine sand with a bag of clay and dumped it on the insulating layer. This was used to give some more thermal mass and level the hearth for firebricks. I used the dry method and it worked well (so far!)
