Default Re: Castable questions

Hi David
While I still look at that wheelbarrow a few times a day, I kind of like the idea of building a few stackable modular rings with the composite lawn edging as I showed in post #5 above. In post #7 above I have a direct link to the company making the Terrace Board composite edging product that is readily available here. On that page they also show basically the same material sold specifically for forming concrete.

I think a few inner/outer rings of composite to cast sidewalls would be almost easier than the full wheelbarrow mold cast I was contemplating earlier. I have a feeling though that both will work as well as many other home built methods.
The castable dense alumina product I am looking at is only $25.00 for 55 lb/ about 25 KG. I think with a fairly low dome (likely sand dome cast) , I might only need 6 bags.

I haven't decided on base yet for insulating and supporting, but I have come to like the idea of an aluminum or steel stud housing with cement board walls and tin roof around the oven. I can not see how vermiculite or perlite just poured into that structure to fill it would be any poorer than an insulating castable material or insulating fiber.

I am no expert but I am at a price threshold that will allow me to totally fail with this concept with no tears, especially if I build it away from any other valuable structures.

As usual comments for and against are welcome.
