Default Denia Fallas 2008

It's March 19, Saint Joeseph Day and the last day of the Fallas Festival when they burn the fallas, known as the Crema....we took a trip to Denia, 6 miles away, which is about the most southern city in the province that celebrates with fallas.

Here's some background from last year in Valencia.

It's an annual event any wood burner should love!

Default Denia's adult fallas

The adult ones are the big ones, usually provocative.

Thanks for sharing those Jim,

I am very envious. Drinking a beer sitting outside on the Marquez di Campo on a warm spring day. You can't beat that.

Is the festival going on this year? One of the news services here says thaat the feast of St. Joe has been suspended because it interferes with the Easter liturgy.
St. Joseph's Day? Not in 2008

Of course, I suppose I could find a priest and ask

Yep....I think I took those pictures yesterday Nothing get's in the way of the Valenciano pyrotechnical fiestas!

It's March 15-19, every year.

Now we finish off the week with Semana Santana processions (Good Friday religious processsions through the old Xabia town to carry the Virgin from the main town church to the church above the stations of the cross). They decorate local crosses and street shrines with fresh flowers and hang out tapestries along the route. Fun to follow along with a candle.....then go to the Feria Artesana (Easter Art Fair).
