Default Don't laugh

Chad,

I was wondering if we could mail you a brick for inclusion in your design. It would be there for posterity. I have a motley collection of bricks here, and could send you a yellow firebrick from my first oven. It might add a new hue, and geographical material, to your wall.

Let me know.

You could send me your address as a private message.
James

Default No laughing matter

James,

No laughter here. Chad, how about a 19th century granite Toronto street cobble? I have hundreds. Heavy, though, so it would have to be sent by UPS.

Jim

Default I am not laughing! Thanks Fellas

Heck, I'd be honored if you wanted to send a cool brick or cobblestone. I'll be generous and let anybody send me whatever bricks or odd bits of whatever they have to throw in there. I even have three cremation ash urns I am going to work into the wall. This is such a fun project.
Send them to:
Chad Petersen
3114 Birchwood Ave
Bellingham Washington 98225

I will find a place of honor for each and every one and send you a photo of it in place.
Also, if any of you are in the Northwest and want to check it out please feel free to come by and say hello.

Default Gaudi-esque

Chad

My wife was stunned when I showed her the pictures. We're going to be in B'ham next Friday afternoon. Any chance you'll be home for a tour?

It is certainly a possibility. I have a brother coming in from out of town for a visit so we may be running around, but I would be happy to try and meet you. Perhaps early afternoon?

Default Gaudiesque? Wow, thanks!

I had to think about the Gaudi comment for a moment and it made me think of Guell Park in Barcelona. He did some remakable things with his mosaics there didnt he. Dang, now you have me thinking about doing one side with the brick and stone and one side with the cool mosaics ala Gaudi. Now that I am working on this alone I have far more confidence to try different things on the wall. I wholeheartedly encourage all of you to let your artistic sides shine with your projects. It is really fun.
Peace
Chad

Default One more pic

I am just cruising along now. I finished another section you have seen most of. It is getting into a nice rythym now...

That is Mary Ann standing there, she is the one who taught me to do this and has now gracefully stepped out of the way to let me run with it. She still helps though.

Default How much time

Chad,
How much time do we have to send you a brick? When do you think you will be done?

Default Hearth insulation

I have insulated my hearth and got it back in place without too much trouble.
http://myweb.facstaff.wwu.edu/chad/Hearth.jpg
This is the insulation I used;
http://myweb.facstaff.wwu.edu/chad/cal%20sil%20box.jpg
It is good for up to 1200 degrees. Should be fine eh? I used two layers of the cal sil foam board on top of a layer of 3/4 inch plywood. It all went together nicely. Now we have to set the dome. I need a few big strong bodies for that one.
Any Volunteers?

Chad
