There will be a two week break in the action before I start my chimney arch. This weekend is my son's birthday then the following week we are on vacation.

DVM,

Even with the physical break I bet you will be thinking about your build.........

I am back in action.42" FB Pompeii Oven with 19" dome, and adjacent fireplace, in the O.C.-2012-08-04-15.17.11.jpg
Started on the chimney arch over the landing. I am including a heat break gap between the arch and dome. The outer chimney arch is wider (tapered entry) and taller (by one inch), then the inner chimney arch. I plan to build my "surround" with concrete block. Placing block next to entry arch sides, with insulation and pouring concrete to fill the gap.42" FB Pompeii Oven with 19" dome, and adjacent fireplace, in the O.C.-2012-08-04-19.29.16.jpg

Making progress. Inner and outer landing arches are complete (while maintaining a heat break between dome and chimney stack) and I am working toward a Dino Pizza style chimney transition.

I am very near the last application of mortar to fire brick! (which is good since my last bag of mortar is getting light). Finishing up landing arch to Chimney transition - would have finished completely but too vigorous whack with the rubber mallet cracked one of the splits that will support the Chimney flange

Hello FB community. You have helped me greatly thus far - I feel very small standing on the shoulders of Giants as I follow the work of many that have gone before.
My next step is to secure the chimney plate to my structure. I know I need to allow for expansion of the Metal. Is there a recommend best practice at this juncture, I suspect if I drill holes to screw the flange down, I will crack blocks. Is it necessary to use a high temp "caulk" to get an acceptable seal?

DVM,

Timely topic, a few steps behind you so will be interested on what opinions are. I am especially interested on how to seal around the cirlcle in the firebrick after you put the chimney pipe on.
