Paella on the rocks

This was one from the shores of the Great Lakes....

First find some ground that's nearly level and some rocks for the pan to sit on above the fire.....scrounge driftwood.

Build temportary windbreaks, lay out ingredients, drink wine, smoke cigars.

Sear, stir and pour.....let rest and eat!

Wait for meteor showers and play Dark Side of the Moon.

It could always be worse...

Jim the paella preacher from here or there!
.....have pan will travel!

Jim,
Are you a morel hunter, Ive just decided to take up the hobby, Found a bunch of beefsteak (supposedly poisonous, but everyone I talk to eats them) but no black morels yet.

Morels are acutally poisonous - mildly. I read that last night. You're not supposed to eat them with alcohol! :( Yeah, right! Sounds like a great way to die. :)

SJ- Looks like a great spot. Reminds me of Puget Sound in WA in the Summers. We used to just pull up on a beach, dig clams, catch crabs, go crazy. Now, its all homes and no trespassing. Which one are you? The one in the shorts with glasses and a smoke, poking at the paellla? :)

Ed, unfortunately I'm not a mushroom guy. I have a friend who collects morels by thousands up by Ludington...sounds like a party!

Hey, I want to come out and check out your oven some weekend soon...
...kick around some ideas on ovens....

Hey thanks for posting, nice to meet you :)

I like that picture: "a glass of wine, a loaf of bread, a haunch of hog, and thou" or words to that effect.
