Stage one done. Thanks James et al

G'day fellers.
Finished the basic dome of a Pompeii style oven this arvo. Pictures probably won't transmit, (luddite, eh), but very content with the result.
For the last three courses ,("chains" you call'em), I used one eigth fibreglass rods,(remnants from kiting days) capped with cardboard for the final "chain" plus keystone(s).
Hey, rain was threatening, material was scarce, so The Perfect Keystone just never happened. OK? (Shh, just don't tell the pizzas....).
Will try to post an image, but when it doesn't appear, if an interested person would offer an email address, I'll send there, to be forwarded.
A pleasant and safe festive season to all you insane wood-burners.
Jeff.

Dave,
Thank you too much.
As of yesterday, the oven is shut down for a week or so as "further layers" are added.
Actually I was most pleased today when the one-sixteenth inch fibre glass rods worked brilliantly as a free-standing template from which to smooth-out the oven brick profile.. So now that the dome is aesthetically pleasing, (and thus matches my mind. hahaha f'n ha,),I'm free to add 2" of semi conducting "mud", before the ceramic blanket goes on.
Thanks Dave.
Jeff.
Thanks

Damon,
I'm a lazy bugger, and rods seemed less work than sand. anyway, job's done.

The weather report said Darwin 30, Melbourne 42 (That's degrees celcius, Country Cousins). We've damn near had the heater on here in Bundy. Ridiculous.
(But brilliant for cement work. Humid, overcast, and the 2" (or is that 50mm, hahaha) sawdust/brickies loam/lime/cement brew has been laid, hardened off, and wrapped in tarp. The Weather Gods have been too kind, as we expect big rain tomorrow.
Mate, I can't believe the tucker FB provides for us peasants.
Pure Heaven [outa hell].
Happy and safe New Year eh.
Luddite Jeff.

Good going Jeff,
You wrote on my thread earlier that you were hoping to be firing by Christmas and you were right. I finally finished the enclosure and can now both look at and use the oven. Check out the finished oven under new photos.

I am sure learning some new vocabulary from you: onya, luddite, etc. Keep it up.....this forum will be educational as well as informative
