| I have found firebricks (the lighter kind) locally for $1.80 I think I'll go with the reds only because I have almost unlimited supply for free and this is my first attempt so I won't feel so bad if it comes crumbling down LOL this one will be a barrel type my next project will be the pompei with firebricks |

| I would give it a try too, if I had access to free reds. But it still could be a good idea to buy the fire bricks for the hearth. Anyone ever try red bricks with a layer of the high heat mortar mix on top for the hearth?
