| Something just occurred to me. If protein balances the starch - wouldn't restaurants serve mankind best, if they served a basket of meat with an order of pasta instead of bread?

| Yup When you eat pasta or bread ( starch) you convert them to sugar almost immediately. Your blood sugar spikes and you feel good. Then the bad news. After using the "quick" energy from the starch your blood sugar crashes and has some bad effects. Protein is also converted to sugar, that is what fuels your body. However, it takes much longer and you do not get that quick up and down in the blood sugar. This is one of the reasons for the recent fad of High Protein diets. A much more reasonable approach is to eat starches ( quick energy), fruits ( quick energy and fiber), vetables ( fiber and vitiams ) and protien ( slow release energy and nutrients) in a balanced fashion. Pizza is almost the perfect food !!1 It has fruit ( tomatoes ), starch ( dough), protein ( pepperoni, cheese, etc) and veggies ( peppers, eggplant ...)Of course I also think that Lemon meringue pie is the perfect breakfast. Eggs, grains, citrus and sugar

| I have trouble getting my head round the idea of eating garlic bread with spaghetti. Which is what people do around here. Garlic bread with steak, yes. Spaghetti with meat sauce, yes. (And some green salad, since we're talking healthy eating here.) But you wouldn't eat steak with meat sauce either, would you? Great change of subject by the way
