WFO Goat
 
Whats Up Guys!!
Ill be starting up my oven for the first time this season this easter roasting a whole goat. I roasted aa whole pig in there and it came out incredible so I'm hoping for the same. I posted a pic of the pig on the forno bravo Facebook page recently if anyone wants to see

The goat should work fine the difference being that goat is mostly lean meat. You might need to do a bit of basting but I am yet to find the thing that does not cook well in the forno (with a little care).

Goat is far superior to lamb in my opinion. Brings back memories when I used to milk two goats before breakfast each day. I decided to get them breeding and borrowed a neighbours billy goat. Only one goat fell pregnant but had twins as they usually do and the plan was to kill and eat them once they were a few months old. I borrowed another neighbours .22, duly steeled myself and shot and butchered those two beautiful baby goats. I went vegetarian shortly after for around 6 months. I'm still haunted by the experience. I can do chooks, but wouldn't kill baby goats again.

I agree, goat is far superior to lamb. Much sweeter and less fat. Had some goats when the baby (now 41) had an intolerance to cows milk and used to eat the offspring. I have only pleasant memories of goat milk and meat. Never made pets of those intended to be meat.

If you want some trivia about how to tell the difference - the goat rib bone is oval and the lamb is flat - same difference between cat and rabbit.

That's interesting, I've eaten plenty of rabbits, but have never tried cats, although I'm sure a lifetime of Chinese takeaway probably included some.

The takeaway in Rockhampton that got busted with a freezer full of Ibis might cast a little shadow on 'chicken' this or 'duck' that but I am sure that most of these places operate on ethics that would preclude such shifty behaviour but might contribute to my love of home cooking!

Yes goat is absolutely much more leaner. I have made the goat in the oven before by braising it and then when fork tender I would roast it. This time I will cook the goat whole. First I will heat the oven and then get it to a low temp. Like 275-300. I will add a cast iron pan filled with water for some humidity and then the tray with goat covered in tin foil. Should take about 7 hours. When done I will lite the oven to roast the outside and then make artichokes. I'm starving

Bit harsh boys. Why not a rabbit? I suppose it is not KFR..............
