I dont know JC.... I usually fight to the death to defend all things Italian but Id have to go with beer and pizza. Im really not a big beer drinker but a cold one with a hot pizza feels sooooo good. Of course it has to be Italian beer..whatta you think Im crazy...

For us tee-totalers:

Cheese pizza: water*

Thin crust: Diet cola, sweet tea (with Splenda) or diet Sprite/7 Up

Deep dish: Diet A&W root beer or cream soda

Deep dish, all the way, pizza Dagwood style: diet Stewart's Root Beer

* If you're only putting cheese on it you obviously can't deal with flavor...

Beer if I'm sharing with friends; wine if I'm eating alone.

I will also occasionally enjoy a glass of Brio with pizza. Brio is a soft drink popular and widely available in Toronto - it is a brand of Chinotto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . It is the only soda (cola, tonic, pop - what you call a soft drink could be a topic of its own) that I drink. The last time I had a Coke was 8 or 9 years ago.

I agree! As with all Itialian food I like wine! Even with desert pizza VINO! I like whatever wine my guests bring and whatever I have on hand. We usually explore the wines from the local Temecula wineries.:

yes i must agree beer is the key, down here in dunedin (new zealand) we have a micro brewery, which make an array of fresh, organic beers, also do seasonal and limited releases.. hehe sometimes a bit too easy to drink, but couldnt ask for a better accompliment with pizza.. even fresh pasta too.

The weather has alot to do with this! Summer equals ice cold beer and Winter equals a cool glass of wine! (Cheap gallon jug of burgundy wine!)
Oh, and you drink the beer (not too fast) and sip the wine!!
And for those of you who don't drink alcohol, try Orangina.

Red wine is #1 but for non-alcoholic, I have to agree with Alfredo.

One of my favourite memories from my early childhood in Toronto is of what a treat it was to go to George's Spaghetti House (wonder if it still exists?) because they served Brio Chinotto - it seemed very exotic at the age of seven! Thanks Alfredo for the reminder! It's been a long while since I had it but I'm headed out this afternoon to a local Italian food shop (no St. Lawrence market but still wonderful, small-scale) so I'll look to see if it's there.

Ciao,
Sarah

JC mentioned d'Arenberg.......nice South Oz cellar door + a good range of reds.

I broke with convention tonight(usually its a beer or a red for me) but now I'm sitting here drinking bourbon after another successful pizza cookup. Well its half Non Alchoholic cause I put cola with it ........besides if I drank beer it would make me sleepy and I'd just sit on the couch for the rest of the evening.....instead I'm on here

Did my first meatlovers pizza with emu metwhurst tonight....it was a hit.
