I became fascinated with brick ovens many years ago. After experimenting with pizza stones and quarry tiles in our standard electric oven, I decided to build an outdoor brick oven at our home in the California wine country. Construction was challenging, and the oven design itself had many flaws. In fact, it was the drawbacks we experienced with that design that led me to create the Pompeii Oven™ plans. Still, cooking in my own wood-fired oven was eye opening. That first oven changed the way our family cooked and entertained. I built a second oven in our kitchen, installed pizza ovens at our rental homes in Italy, and installed several for friends and family in Europe. I was hooked, and I wanted to share my expertise with others. After a long career as an entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, I was ready for something new—and old.

While the pizza oven is nearly as common in Italy as the barbecue, and virtually every village has at least one Pizzeria with a Forno a Legna, until recently wood-fired cooking remained a luxury that few could afford in the United States. But Forno Bravo has changed that.

Today, Forno Bravo is a global leader in the pizza oven marketplace.
