CIM 2 Las Vegas Challenge; Number 3
Hello Wood-Fired Oven Community Members,
If you have followed Forno Bravo over the past few years, you might have noticed that I have taken up distance running and fund raising for the Christopher Reeve Foundation. For the past two years, I have run the Boston 2 Big Sur challenge, where we race the Boston Marathon and Big Sur Marathon on back-to-back weekends. But now it is time for a new challenge.
On December 4, 2011, I will be racing the California International Marathon (CIM) in Sacramento, CA in the morning, and then flying to Las Vegas to race the Rock-and-Roll Marathon that evening (the world's largest nighttime running event). 52.4 miles by foot and 550 miles by airplane—in a twelve hours period. In addition to the mileage, the CIM 2 Las Vegas Challenge brings a couple of new hurdles. In order to catch the flight from Sacramento, we need to run CIM at a pretty fast 3:15 pace. For the second marathon, we not only have to stretch out some tired legs, we need to finish the race in less than 4:30 (or be swept off the course). The Las Vegas Marathon has a cut-off time because we will be racing on the strip, and we need to give the casinos their road back.
This might be tough.
As always, Forno Bravo is a recognized fund raiser for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, and we are helping them reach their mission of curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. I met with members of the Reeve Foundation, along with other fund raisers and some great people who have been helped by the foundation at the Boston Marathon this spring, and it feels really good to be a part of this community.
We will continue offering "Team Reeves" versions of the Forno Bravo eBook Series for $10 each, and Forno Bravo will match all contributions. Of course the standard free version of each of our five eBooks will continue to be available. Forno Bravo has raised thousands of dollars for charity over the past few years, and we are excited about this new opportunity.
Want to donate more than $10? You can always order more than one Forno Bravo eBook.
On a personal note, I have been running for almost three years, and I have run ten marathons so far. I ran a Boston Qualifying time (you have to run a pretty fast time to be allowed to run the Boston Marathon -- 3:35:59 for my age group) in my second race, and I have a personal best time of 2:58:34.
One last thing. If you would like to make a more substantial contribution to Team Reeve, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are having a post race pizza party on May 1, 2011 for the runners, organizers, and major donors at our home in Pebble Beach, and we would love to meet you (and throw you a great Pizza Napoletana).
Thanks for all of your community support over the years, and thanks to everyone who backs these exciting adventures.
