I'm Peter Reinhart! Ask Me Anything! Monday, February 15, 2016 7:00-8:00 pm EST

To kick off our AMA feature, we have invited author, chef and master bread maker and host of Pizza Quest, Peter Reinhart, to be our first host! Peter will be in the Forum on Monday, February 15th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST. If you are unable to be online during the live session, you can post your questions in the sticky post. Peter will answer those questions during the live session on February 15th. You can view Peter's answers to your questions as well as what happened during the live session in the session thread.

Ask Me Anything New Forum Feature

You will notice a new forum at the top of the main page called, "Ask Me Anything". This forum will be used for live one hour "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions hosted by people who are knowledgeable in different areas pertaining to wood fired ovens. How it works:
- Each AMA will have a "sticky" thread where the community can post questions they would like answered during the live session. This will allow everyone to participate even if you can't be online for the live session. These questions will not be answered by the host until the live AMA; if you need an answer quickly, you should post it in the appropriate Forum area for the community to respond.
- Another thread will be posted for the live AMA. Registered users who are logged in during the live session can interact with the host by asking questions and receiving responses.
- The live thread will remain in the AMA forum to view after the session.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Please let us know if there is a topic that you'd like to have as an AMA and we'll look for a host!

    Hello Everyone,
    After months of research and saying I want to build a WFO, I finally started this weekend. I have attached a few photos and plan on pouring the supporting slab in the next few weeks. But was wondering if I need any extra support in the middle(The opening is 1380 x 1380) I am worried about the concrete staying suspended with the weight of a 42" oven, when following the plans downloaded from the FB website. I also need to know about mixing vermicrete at the 5:1 ratio if that is straight Portland Cement or do you need sand and aggregate. Any other suggestions or things to watch out for will be helpful. The second open area is about 600mm wide and I have a prefab stainless steal bench that will be fixed there.

    The suspended slab will be fine just make sure you use 8mm rebar 200-300mm spacing for reinforcement. The only support i would use in the middle would be tempory stuff to prevent sagging while wet. Here's a pic of mine to help explain what I did. Note how my tempory support was done in a way that I can easily remove it.
    Mine was done rather rough but it gives you an idea on what I'm talking about. Once done leave the support in for as long as possible 3-4 weeks.

    As you can see my stand is different to yours and mine does have permanent support in the middle but it makes no difference. Once the concrete is dry your suspended slab will be strong. Many builds have been done with your style stand with no support and no problems just make sure you use rebar for reinforcement not mesh..


    The vermicrete is just water, portland cement and vermiculite. Some people mix the cement and water first then add it to the vermiculite to make sure it's mixed in properly.

        Thanks guys for the information, I am sure I will have tons of questions as my build progresses and I will post pictures to get as much advice as possible. So glad this forum is here to gather and pass on information so we are all learning from each other!
