New Forno Bravo Forum Feature

Forno Bravo Forum Community,

You will notice a new forum at the top of the main page called, "Ask Me Anything". This forum will be used for live one hour "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions hosted by people who are knowledgeable in different areas pertaining to wood fired ovens. How it works:
- Each AMA will have a "sticky" thread where the community can post questions they would like answered during the live session. This will allow everyone to participate even if you can't be online for the live session. These questions will not be answered by the host until the live AMA; if you need an answer quickly, you should post it in the appropriate Forum area for the community to respond.
- Another thread will be posted for the live AMA. Registered users who are logged in during the live session can interact with the host by asking questions and receiving responses.
- The live thread will remain in the AMA forum to view after the session.

To kick off our AMA feature, we have invited author, chef and master bread maker and host of Pizza Quest, Peter Reinhart, to be our first host! Peter will be in the Forum on Monday, February 15th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST. If you are unable to be online during the live session, you can post your questions in the sticky post. Peter will answer those questions during the live session on February 15th. You can view Peter's answers to your questions as well as what happened during the live session in the session thread.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Please let us know if there is a topic that you'd like to have as an AMA and we'll look for a host!

Dome Installation Video - Casa / Premio / Modena


For many of you who bought a modular oven, you may have asked how we put the domes together when we build them. For those of you considering one of our ovens, we shot a video to make your install easier.

    I am about to order some fire bricks to build a pompeii oven. The smaller one I believe 36". I see It states you need approximately 130 bricks, but in the plans it states you will need 130 half bricks. Does anyone know what I should order. Half or full size.The pics appear to indicate half bricks for the dome

    The dome is built of half-bricks, but you will have to cut them yourself. I have not heard of anyone finding half-bricks for sale. There are several ways to cut the bricks - check out some of the build threads on this forum to see how others have done it. There is a thread in the Newbie Forum here: A newbies survey of the Forno Bravo treasures hiding in the archives that will point you toward several especially helpful builds.

    There is also a description of the various ways to cut bricks in the free pompeii oven plans.

      There are half size fire bricks - but half in the thin dimension. They're called "splits" and they are usually the same price as full size bricks. You don't want these. The regular firebrick that you can buy at a masonry supply or brickyard is what you want. Halving bricks is pretty simple: a diamond saw cuts them easily, you can even break them in half with a special chisel called a brickset. You'll probably want some kind of diamond saw, as some trimming is called for in even the most simple build.

        Hey thanks guys. I found a place that does sell half bricks but now with the info I just got I will have to go and see them rather thenvjust a phone call. If they are splits ill be buying full bricks. Thanks very much for your help. I'm very excited about doing this and could use allot of help lol

          I don't think the OP is asking about buying half bricks, I think they are asking if the 130 brick count is for whole bricks or if that is the amount of half bricks needed, meaning 65 full bricks split into 130 half.

              Get 130 whole bricks, if that is what the plans call for, plus enough extra to save a trip to buy more after you make a few mistakes.....Maybe 10-20 extra.

                thank you, i got the slab form ready with enough room to have a small patio near the oven, hopefully for some pizza parties haha
