New Forno Bravo Forum Feature

Forno Bravo Forum Community,

You will notice a new forum at the top of the main page called, "Ask Me Anything". This forum will be used for live one hour "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions hosted by people who are knowledgeable in different areas pertaining to wood fired ovens. How it works:
- Each AMA will have a "sticky" thread where the community can post questions they would like answered during the live session. This will allow everyone to participate even if you can't be online for the live session. These questions will not be answered by the host until the live AMA; if you need an answer quickly, you should post it in the appropriate Forum area for the community to respond.
- Another thread will be posted for the live AMA. Registered users who are logged in during the live session can interact with the host by asking questions and receiving responses.
- The live thread will remain in the AMA forum to view after the session.

To kick off our AMA feature, we have invited author, chef and master bread maker and host of Pizza Quest, Peter Reinhart, to be our first host! Peter will be in the Forum on Monday, February 15th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST. If you are unable to be online during the live session, you can post your questions in the sticky post. Peter will answer those questions during the live session on February 15th. You can view Peter's answers to your questions as well as what happened during the live session in the session thread.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Please let us know if there is a topic that you'd like to have as an AMA and we'll look for a host!

    I have and idea for an insulating door. Would this sandwich idea work?

    Inside to Out:

    Sheet metal, 2 1/2 inch insulating firebrick, some type of wood to be able to finish.

    Any suggestions for a weatherproof outer door?, is it necessary?

    From other posts I learned that a bolt right through will be a heat drain, so perhaps sink the heads of the bolts to tie one side into the insulation brick & again in the opposite direction, so there will not be a right-through bolt.
    Weatherproofing need will depend on how deep your entrance is I guess

      The thicker the bolts the more heat conducted through. Don't use galvanized- poison. I used 3/16" stainless steel bolts. They've worked well. Screws get too hot and char around the threads, then you lose adhesion.

        Sorry I should have also said that my door only weighs 2.5 Kgs and has one single handle for one handed operation, very useful when you have a peel and pizza in the other hand.Yes I sometimes put the door 1/2 way in when the sting has gone out of the oven and we're still cooking pizzas.

          Thanks for the tip on the stainless & especially the galvanised Dave!

          Perhaps I did not explain myself clearly, so I will try with a picture :-)
          As per attached, I am suggeting bots that dont go right through & should thus not drain

            A clever idea. It will make it harder to put together and double the number of holes, reducing strength, but it might also work quite well. Give it a shot.

              Tnx. Your comment re number of bolts & strenght is a valid one which I have not given enough thought. Especially since there will be multiple insulation bricks & thus so many more holes :-(

              I will think some more :-)
