New Forno Bravo Forum Feature

Forno Bravo Forum Community,

You will notice a new forum at the top of the main page called, "Ask Me Anything". This forum will be used for live one hour "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions hosted by people who are knowledgeable in different areas pertaining to wood fired ovens. How it works:
- Each AMA will have a "sticky" thread where the community can post questions they would like answered during the live session. This will allow everyone to participate even if you can't be online for the live session. These questions will not be answered by the host until the live AMA; if you need an answer quickly, you should post it in the appropriate Forum area for the community to respond.
- Another thread will be posted for the live AMA. Registered users who are logged in during the live session can interact with the host by asking questions and receiving responses.
- The live thread will remain in the AMA forum to view after the session.

To kick off our AMA feature, we have invited author, chef and master bread maker and host of Pizza Quest, Peter Reinhart, to be our first host! Peter will be in the Forum on Monday, February 15th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST. If you are unable to be online during the live session, you can post your questions in the sticky post. Peter will answer those questions during the live session on February 15th. You can view Peter's answers to your questions as well as what happened during the live session in the session thread.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Please let us know if there is a topic that you'd like to have as an AMA and we'll look for a host!

  • Nashville, TN. Outdoor Kitchen and WFO Build

    Hey All,

This is actually my first post. I have been reading this site for a few weeks now getting ideas for my outdoor kitchen which will have a 42" brick WFO and a custom built grill. I am currently getting ready to finish the forms on the pizza oven structural support slab. Here are some pics showing the progress from the start to now including the build of the custom grill.

This is the clean slate and my little helper

This is the orginal foundation slab for the outdoor kitchen before we decided to go crazy and do the pizza oven so I had to make a few minor adjustments.

    More pics to come

Here are some more pictures and this time I figured out the thumbnail thing on here. First pic is the block walls for the first section, the custom grill I am building will be in the center. Third pic is all the block done and the forms up for the concrete countertop. The fourth pic is the rebar reinforcment for the counter top all welded together and ready to set in place.

            Hey Steel and Stone,

If you don't mind I would like to add your concrete counter pour to a thread I started on concrete counters. Are you hard troweling or polishing?

              UtahBeehiver,

Feel free to add anything you like to the thread. I normally hard trowel just about all the tops I pour. I do have polishing equipment and have ground some down to expose the aggregate but most of the time I hard trowel and then come back with a slury and trowel that in to add some marbling. All the countertops in my house are also concrete, I guess I am addicted to them.
here is a pic of the master bath top in my house we sold in Florida. I also cast the concrete vessel sink.

Re: Nashville, TN. Outdoor Kitchen and WFO Build

Next up was to build the grill. I decided on sort of a hybrid I guess you could call it. I like the argentine style grills with v-grates and the ability to adjust the grill grate height but most of them are an open style and I still wanted a top on mine as we do cook a lot of low and slow stuff also; so I came up with a grill that has the v-grate, adjustable height, and a three section cover. Here is the first round of the fabrication pics of it along with the test fit. I figured this way if I measured and cut anything twice and it was still too short I would rather find out now.

In these pics I welded on some of the side supports and the uprights with the bearing carriers for the crank shaft that runs from side to side.

Thank you and that would be cool! I had never grilled on this particular style grill before but loved the fact about the grate moving up and down to control heat and sear as well as the v-grate catching excess grease and channeling down to the front into the drip tray preventing most flare ups. We have cooked about 6 times on it so far and I have to tell you it really works awesome.

This is the fabrication of the grate itself. 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" angle. Finished size ended up 34" wide and 22" deep. Weighted in at a whopping 34-1/2lbs. I hope it should last a few years.

                              Thanks Chip,

Here is the next series of pics.
The front and side vents cut out, the hand hammered hinges, lid lock and handle. And finally the completed grill painted and set in place. The entire fire box section is lined with firebrick splits, and has a 2" layer of insulating concrete under the firebrick floor.
