    I have just finished a Barrel Vault oven. Unfortunatly I had not found this site before I started work on my oven so I made several basic mistakes following the design from another site. Some are not reversable and others I may be able to fix.

    There is no insulation between the fire brick hearth and the concrete slab. At present I have no insulation over the oven. When I fired the oven to cook some Pizza the outer brickwork became cery hot after about 2 1/2 hours. I am thinking of surronding the oven with a housing and filling it with insulation to improve the efficiency.

    It worked OK but did take a lot of wood to get it up to temperature.

    Hi David,

    A fellow Georgian(Athens). I hate to tell you this, but that not an oven. Its a fireplace, your heat just goes up and out. It might be good for roasting hotdogs and marshmellows.
