I'm Peter Reinhart! Ask Me Anything! Monday, February 15, 2016 7:00-8:00 pm EST

To kick off our AMA feature, we have invited author, chef and master bread maker and host of Pizza Quest, Peter Reinhart, to be our first host! Peter will be in the Forum on Monday, February 15th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST. If you are unable to be online during the live session, you can post your questions in the sticky post. Peter will answer those questions during the live session on February 15th. You can view Peter's answers to your questions as well as what happened during the live session in the session thread.

Ask Me Anything New Forum Feature

You will notice a new forum at the top of the main page called, "Ask Me Anything". This forum will be used for live one hour "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions hosted by people who are knowledgeable in different areas pertaining to wood fired ovens. How it works:
- Each AMA will have a "sticky" thread where the community can post questions they would like answered during the live session. This will allow everyone to participate even if you can't be online for the live session. These questions will not be answered by the host until the live AMA; if you need an answer quickly, you should post it in the appropriate Forum area for the community to respond.
- Another thread will be posted for the live AMA. Registered users who are logged in during the live session can interact with the host by asking questions and receiving responses.
- The live thread will remain in the AMA forum to view after the session.

We hope you enjoy this new feature! Please let us know if there is a topic that you'd like to have as an AMA and we'll look for a host!

I put my little helpers to work. They like the new big sand box.
      Used over 200 pc 1/2" X 10' rod.
Oven cap will be 6" thick.
Oven and patio cap took 7 yards of mud.

Set forms for insulation plus added the rounded front for a little more surface oven area.
Poured concrete around the 2" insulation to hold in place.
Next day pulled formes to see results.

            Finished setting the oven floor.
I am planning on setting the soldier course on top of the oven floor. I am looking for some input on pros and cons to that idea.

I am planning on setting the soldier course on top of the oven floor. I am looking for some input on pros and cons to that idea.
Pros: easier floor cutting, spreads load on insulation layer a bit better.
Cons: your grandchildren will have a slightly more difficult time replacing your floor bricks when they wear out, it's not how the professional builders do it.

The consensus is: it doesn't matter at all. 100 per cent personal choice.

More pics of the build of the first three rows and arch into the oven. I been finding as time goes on the better I get in setting brick.

Excellent work Nitro69! You have the best arch corner bricks (the angled ones that start the arch curve) I have ever seen. I'm glad you tied in your landing wall bricks with your archs and cut the 1" reveal into those. I did that too; it was hard but I think it adds to the strength of the landing walls and the entire structure. It also seems to take away any reason for buttressing the arch later.

Great job, thanks for the pics. You guys are making it look easy! Cheers, Dino

Thanks Dino. I been looking at others build and putting those ideas into mine.

The picture of the arch looks better then in person, I need to touch it up a bit with the diamond cup wheel on the angle grinder so the door will sit nice. There is nothing that I can not fix with an angle grinder and diamond cup wheel.
